“As you give thought to your future—your future that may be 10 years; your future that may be 5 years; or your future that is 60 days away—you literally begin prepaving. And then, as you move into those pre-paved moments, and as that future becomes your present, you fine-tune it by saying, “This, is what I now want.” And all of those thoughts that you have put forth about your future, right down to this moment when you are now intending what action you want to take, will all fit together to bring you precisely that which you now want to live. “

The above excerpt strikes home…especially that 2010 has just began. I know, many of us make it a practice to have new year resolutions. The June 3, 2006 issue of national and local daily newspapers flashed pictures of jubilant Manny Pacquiao, raising his hands in victory, and wearing the WBC international super featherweight title belt, after he defeated by unanimous decision his Mexican challenger, Oscar Larios, after 12 rounds battle held June 2 at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines.
As Filipinos share the joy of Pacquaio’s triumph, memories of my late brother Nonoy flashed back, too. Several times, as I glanced at Pacquaio’s pictures, what I see is not the beaming Manny, but Nonoy, the frustrated boxer. I even mused, “if death did not come early, maybe Nonoy, too, was now one of the country’s best boxers.”

As we tread the path of life, trying to savor the moments and face the challenges and enjoyment that go with it, we oftentimes meet people and experience situations that either confirm who we are, or get us confused or amused.
Travelling to other places and other countries is one avenue where we get challenging and learning experiences, because we are in a situation different from what we are in, and cultures different from what we have grown up with.
I have several recollections of amusing personal anecdotes that until this time, when I remember them, they never fail to make me smile, and sometimes, laugh.
